Want a healthy Easter this year? We’ve got you!

As Easter fast approaches, we prepare ourselves and our bodies to consume the whole years’ worth of chocolate in one day. We’ve accepted the fact that we’ll be feeling bloated, our skin will break out, not to mention we’ll be riddled with guilt as we drag ourselves to the gym on Easter Monday morning. But just for a second, imagine a universe where you wouldn’t go to bed guilty on Sunday night. Imagine a universe where you would go to bed on Sunday night feeling healthy! You know us, so you know we’re all about keeping it fresh and healthy, so let’s have a look at how we can help you to enjoy everything you usually do over Easter, without the guilt.

Here at Peaches, we offer a wide range of wholesome, organic food, and when it comes to Easter treats, we’re going above and beyond! And they’re not just for the grown-ups! The kids will love these ideas too! For the traditional Easter egg with a difference, there’s the Moo Free vegan chocolate eggs in a range of flavours, including Bunnycomb and Orange! These are great for the kids, because what’s Easter without an egg from the Easter bunny!

But if you’re looking for the real deal, without the high amounts of sugar, look no further than dark chocolate. Chocolate containing over 70% cocoa means there is less sugar and saturated fat, which is the bad stuff. Peaches has a huge range of amazing, quality chocolate that will ensure you get your fix over the holidays. Try the Loving Earth range for vegan, gluten free, and non-GMO choccy in flavours that will have you celebrating Easter every weekend! Try their 85% dark, or if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, try Turkishly Delightful or Coffee Ka-pow!

And if you want to get really crazy, try the Pana Chocolate range of raw, organic, dairy, soy, gluten AND refined sugar free! Woah! There will be no regrets here. Try Eighty for 80% cocoa, or Sour Cherry and Vanilla or Rose for something more exciting!

And don’t forget, chocolate has a whole range of uses, so don’t be limited to eating it in bar form. Why not melt it down and dip it in some fresh seasonal fruits like bananas or strawberries?

There are so many ideas out there if you are looking for a healthy Easter this year. Don’t fall into the trap of binging on sugary treats over the long weekend. Come into Peaches and check out our awesome range of products to make your Easter the healthiest and happiest yet!

You’re Sweet Enough Already

Lately, we sure have been noticing the recent trend towards low sugar diets! There are so many different reasons to try out a low sugar diet; maybe you’re trying to lose weight, or need to cut out sugar due to health reasons like hyperglycemia, or maybe you just don’t have a sweet tooth. It can be pretty hard to avoid sugar in everyday life, especially when it’s hidden in some of your favourite foods and treats! So we’ve decided to help you out by checking out some of the foods you should be eating and the ones you should be avoiding!

Foods You Need

  • Non-Starchy Vegetables- Rich in nutrients and full of vitamins, non-starchy vegetables are your best option for keeping you fuller for longer. Some of these vegetables include leafy greens, kale, mushrooms, onions, cauliflower, capsicums, peas, corn and eggplant. It’s also important to incorporate some mildly starchy vegetables such as potatoes for a more balanced diet.
  • Low Sugar Fruits- Depending if you’re looking to cut out just refined sugars or all sugars too, fruit is a relatively safe option for you. Low sugar fruits such as apples, berries, limes and lemons are full of nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So remember these fruits for next time you’re reaching for that pack of biscuits!
  • Dairy Products- Cheese, milk and natural yoghurt are great snacks options as they’re full of calcium and healthy carbohydrates.
  • Proteins- Proteins keep you feeling full, and help reduce your cravings for those bad sugary snacks! Focus on foods like fish, poultry, eggs, meat and some nuts to keep both you and your stomach happy!

Foods To Avoid

  •  Sugar- We’ll just start off with the obvious! Anything from lollies, cakes and other sugary snacks which don’t contain any necessary nutrients should be avoided. Also make sure to look out on the ingredients lists on your favourite cereals, sauces and marinades which may contain some hidden sugars for you to avoid.
  • Flours- Avoiding foods containing flour like donuts, fried food, pasta, pizza, cereals and white bread to make your sugar free diet much more effective!

Cutting out some of the sugar in your diet can bring some amazing benefits such as weight loss, clearer, skin, increased energy and motivation, health teeth and improved digestion and mental health. Ultimately you need to decide on the diet that fits best for you and remember not to be too hard on yourself if you have a few lollies one night. But just remember that you don’t need to eat sugar all the time, after all you’re sweet enough already!

Fresh Product of the Week: Organic Pasta

Today is the day we launch Time is Ripe – inspiring all our fresh food fans to buy organic!

Each week we will be highlighting a different product and giving everyone who purchases it the chance to WIN a hamper filled with delicious organic goodies!

We are starting Time is Ripe with La Domenica Organic Pasta as the featured organic pasta of the week. Now, just how much difference can there really be between average supermarket pasta and organic pasta? Well, you may be surprised to know the answer.

Organic pasta is produced completely free from pesticides, fertilisers, and other unnatural hormones that can be harmful to you and your family. Organic pasta also provides more nutrients, fibre and has a natural wheat flavour. Something that most people haven’t given much thought to before is how many toxins and chemicals are used when growing wheat and grains used to make breads and pasta.

At Peaches we believe that the fresher the better, and we’ve found a delicious healthy recipe you can make using La Domenica Organic Penne Regati. All the ingredients in the recipe can be purchased at Peaches Fresh!

VEGETABLE GARDEN PASTA

200 grams of La Domenica Penne Regati

1 punnet of fresh cherry tomatoes

1 clove of garlic

2 1/2 tbs of Golden Range Olive Oil

1 ear of corn

1 zucchini (chopped)

1/2 capsicum (chopped)

Basil (sliced)

Salt and Pepper (to taste)

Start by heating up the olive oil in a pan. Cook the garlic clove and tomatoes until they soften. Put all the other vegetables in a separate pan and sauté for about 10 minutes. Once everything is ready, combine in one pan. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper, stir through some fresh basil and serve. Couldn’t be more simple and healthy!

This week we want to see you cook your own delicious and nutritious meal using La Domenica Organic Pasta!

Everyone that buys a packet of La Domenica pasta at Peaches this week will go into the draw to win a $500 organic gourmet hamper! Even better, our Facebook followers have the chance to win $100 Peaches voucher each week by answering our competition question.

So stay tuned to our Facebook page to enter the competition and let us know about meals you have created using our organic pasta range!

Organic Winter Warmers

It’s easy to eat healthy and organically during the summertime when fresh fruit and vegetables are in high supply. As the weather gets colder, it becomes harder to find the same ingredients, and tastes turn towards hearty, carb-rich comfort dishes like casseroles, pasta and curries. And while Nanna’s Chicken Casserole might be super tasty – it’s probably not super healthy!

At Peaches Fresh we stock all of the ingredients necessary to give Nanna’s recipe an upgrade. We’ve scoured the internet to give you some inspiration to create delicious winter recipes using organic ingredients from our range.

The Australian Healthy Food Guide is a great resource for healthy recipes. We especially love their Simple Chicken Casserole, which can be made with our local-grown Mondo Chicken, or swapped out for our Organic Beef from Dandaragan. The best thing about casseroles is that you can add as many vegetables as you want depending on what you have on hand, and freeze the leftovers when you’re done!

Body and Soul has a whole list of comfort food that packs a nutritional punch! We are craving some of the vegetable frittata, which is a quick and easy way to get your daily dose of vegetables. Remember to use some of our Fraser Coast Cackleberry Eggs and Barambah Organic Cheese to create a healthy, tasty frittata the whole family will love!

Be sure to let us know if you’ve tried out any of these recipes, or have your own organic winter favourites. Take a photo and share it with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

We’re Open!

Here at Peaches we are focused on being committed to our customers over the busy holiday period and understand that you might need to pop into our store at the last minute, that’s why we are open 7 days a week, 7am to 8pm! The only days we are closed over the Christmas period are Christmas Day and New Years Day. Hope to see you soon!

Hear me RAW!

One of the most exciting current fresh food trends is the push towards organic, raw food. When we say ‘raw food’, we mean organic food that is unprocessed or uncooked, so it retains much more nutritional value and natural enzymes that are typically destroyed during the cooking process. Feeling tired? A raw food diet will give you the energy you need, keep your mind clear, and encourage general well being.

The best part about all of this is that there are plenty of delicious raw food recipes, some of which may surprise you! We really like this easy recipe for spicy kale chips by the Raw Food Kitchen!
Spicy Kale Chips
Ingredients:

1 bunch Kale

2 Tablespoons Red Thai Curry Paste (make sure its free from additives and preservatives)

1/2 cup of Tahini

4 tablespoons of Tamari

Juice of whole lemon

Water to thin the mix

1/2 teaspoon Himalayan Sea Salt

3 squirts Stevia

1 teaspoon Sesame Oil

Method:

Combine all the ingredients except the Kale into a bowl and stir to combine. If mixture is too thick, add water to thin. De-stem the kale and shred or tear the leaves off into large bite sized pieces, and place into bowl with sauce ingredients.

Massage the ingredients into the kale until coated nicely. Spread kale out onto baking paper lined dehydrator sheets and dehydrate for 6 – 8 hours at 105°F.
