Surviving Winter with Soup!

Winter is here and it’s the perfect time to enjoy warming up with a delicious bowl of soup. As soups are vegetable-based, they are a great way to ensure you’re getting much-needed vitamins and minerals over winter.

Soups also have high water content and are often very low-calorie so they leave you feeling full without having to eat the extra calories often found in heavier winter meals.

Best of all, soups are easy to make, affordable and totally delicious. Here are some of our favorite healthy soup recipes:

Creamy Cauliflower Soup

This recipe is a delicious and decadent vegetable soup, which is perfect for winter. The inclusion of cauliflower – a known cancer-fighting ingredient, and kale- a nutrient dense super food – makes it the perfect soup to stay healthy this winter.

Chicken Soup with Spring Veg and Pasta

Chicken noodle soup has often been a popular choice of soup for anyone under-the-weather. This is largely due to it having mild anti-inflammatory effects, as well as being able to help reduce congestion. The use of lean proteins and vegetables in chicken noodle soup make it a nutritionally balanced meal to enjoy over winter. This recipe puts a modern spin on the popular soup so you can rediscover your love for it.

This helps you stay fuller for longer and also helps to stabilize blood sugar, making you less likely to crave sugary foods or crash in energy levels during the day. The recipe also includes coconut milk, which is high in flu-fighting vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, iron, sodium and magnesium. Peaches Product of the Month: Pukka Organic Herbs

Winter is upon us, and there is no better time for us to feature Pukka Organic Tea as our product of the month!

Tea is no longer the beverage you’ve succumbed to when it’s 4 in the afternoon and if you drink one more coffee you’re at risk of experiencing hallucinations, or a number of other symptoms of a caffeine overdose – it’s the drink du jour for winter.

Pukka Organic Tea is indulgence in its own right! We have 15 different flavours in stock at Peaches Fresh. From a brew guaranteed to revitalize you first thing in the morning, to a combination of organic herbs that will help relax right before bed, Pukka Tea is designed to help you get the most from your health.

Our ranges include:

 Taste Alive Range

  • Three Ginger
  • Licorice & Cinnamon
  • Three Mint
  • Three Tulsi
  • Three Cinnamon
  • Peppermint & Licorice

Green Revolution Range

This range was part of a recent relaunch of green tea from Pukka.

  • Supreme Matcha Green. The first green tea in a bag to contain Matcha combined with three whole leaf green teas. As the name suggests, it’s what gives this green tea its incredible boost.

Feel Alive Range

  • Detox
  • Night Time
  • Revitalise

Specialty Blacks Range

  • ‘Elegant’ English Breakfast

“Antioxidants”. “Activated”. “Clean”. “Cold-pressed”. These are just a few of the major buzzwords associated with health at the moment. Words like these tend to magically clear our conscience when making choices about our health, but how many of us actually know what they mean?

Here at Peaches Fresh, you guys know we like to keep it simple, so we’re broken down a few ingredients in some of the Pukka Organic Tea we have in stock, and provided you with some info about what the heck these ingredients actually do.

Wanting better heart health? According to lifehack.org, a 2009 research paper investigating tea consumption and risk of stroke found that people who consume up to 3 cups of green and black tea per day had a 21% lower risk of a stroke than people who consume little to no tea of either variety.

Made from a shrub called Camellia sinensis and harvested by Pukka in Vietnam, the black tea used in their rich English Breakfast teas, is a great place to start for the novice herbal tea drinker.

Digestive trouble? Soothe your stomach and aid your digestive fire with aniseed! Sourced from organic farmers in Turkey, aniseed is found in the detox and after dinner Pukka Teas.

Looking to relax and recharge? Look no further than chamomile, an ingredient used in Night Time and Relax. Chamomile is a flower used in herbal traditions since the time of ancient Egyptians to help soothe and relax.

Although further research needs to take place to confirm the physical health benefits of herbal tea, the therapeutic benefits of a cup of tea are undeniable. Like a warm hug in a cup, taking 5-10 minutes out of your day to mindfully indulge in a cup of tea, no matter what herbal concoction, can often help focus your mind, even if just for a few seconds to recharge your thoughts and your self.

Pukka are not just good for your body and mind, turns out their ethical focus and value of people, planet and planets, which means they’ve got your soul covered too.

Who’d have guessed a few herbs, placed together in some filter paper bound by string could have so many benefits!

Come and get yours today.

An Unforgettable Valentine’s Day

Once again, Valentine’s Day proved to be a pretty busy day for everyone at Peaches! Especially with our beautiful 80cm long roses and delicious home-made chocolates proving to be a hit! But there’s another reason why yesterday was a very special day for all of us! It was also the day of the Freo Streetwise’s Charity Car Cruise, a wonderful event that helps to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Breast Cancer Care WA.

Our very own Rob and Frank Di Tullio were among the first to show their support for the cause by donating the first $1000! According to Rob, “It’s our way of giving back to the community that supports us.” They’ve been doing their very best to show the community just how much they care by also donating to other charities including St. Patrick’s Community Support Centre as well as other local schools and hospitals.

Both Rob and Frank had an incredible time at the event and loved the opportunity to take their very own street machines out! You may have even spotted their Ford GT and Torana A9X out and about yesterday along with some of the other amazing vintage cars of Perth! Rob and Frank also did their best to urge other Freo businesses to get involved either by donating or even joining in the cruise themselves. They were absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity that they were reciprocated with!

With 17,250 men projected to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the last year, there’s never been a more important time to get involved. Every little bit can help make a huge difference! To see so many people from the community involved in such an important event was truly heart-warming!  Rob and Frank would like to sincerely thank the fantastic people who were involved and helped organise the event! As well as everyone who participated and donated.

Nothing make us happier at Peaches than seeing the community coming together to support a much needed cause. It was a Valentine’s Day that no one is going to be forgetting anytime soon! The Di Tullio brothers can’t wait to see you all there again next time!

You’re Sweet Enough Already

Lately, we sure have been noticing the recent trend towards low sugar diets! There are so many different reasons to try out a low sugar diet; maybe you’re trying to lose weight, or need to cut out sugar due to health reasons like hyperglycemia, or maybe you just don’t have a sweet tooth. It can be pretty hard to avoid sugar in everyday life, especially when it’s hidden in some of your favourite foods and treats! So we’ve decided to help you out by checking out some of the foods you should be eating and the ones you should be avoiding!

Foods You Need

  • Non-Starchy Vegetables- Rich in nutrients and full of vitamins, non-starchy vegetables are your best option for keeping you fuller for longer. Some of these vegetables include leafy greens, kale, mushrooms, onions, cauliflower, capsicums, peas, corn and eggplant. It’s also important to incorporate some mildly starchy vegetables such as potatoes for a more balanced diet.
  • Low Sugar Fruits- Depending if you’re looking to cut out just refined sugars or all sugars too, fruit is a relatively safe option for you. Low sugar fruits such as apples, berries, limes and lemons are full of nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So remember these fruits for next time you’re reaching for that pack of biscuits!
  • Dairy Products- Cheese, milk and natural yoghurt are great snacks options as they’re full of calcium and healthy carbohydrates.
  • Proteins- Proteins keep you feeling full, and help reduce your cravings for those bad sugary snacks! Focus on foods like fish, poultry, eggs, meat and some nuts to keep both you and your stomach happy!

Foods To Avoid

sugar af oo

  •  Sugar- We’ll just start off with the obvious! Anything from lollies, cakes and other sugary snacks which don’t contain any necessary nutrients should be avoided. Also make sure to look out on the ingredients lists on your favourite cereals, sauces and marinades which may contain some hidden sugars for you to avoid.
  • Flours- Avoiding foods containing flour like donuts, fried food, pasta, pizza, cereals and white bread to make your sugar free diet much more effective!

Cutting out some of the sugar in your diet can bring some amazing benefits such as weight loss, clearer, skin, increased energy and motivation, health teeth and improved digestion and mental health. Ultimately you need to decide on the diet that fits best for you and remember not to be too hard on yourself if you have a few lollies one night. But just remember that you don’t need to eat sugar all the time, after all you’re sweet enough already!

Fresh Product of the Week: Organic Pasta

Today is the day we launch Time is Ripe – inspiring all our fresh food fans to buy organic!

Each week we will be highlighting a different product and giving everyone who purchases it the chance to WIN a hamper filled with delicious organic goodies!

We are starting Time is Ripe with La Domenica Organic Pasta as the featured organic pasta of the week. Now, just how much difference can there really be between average supermarket pasta and organic pasta? Well, you may be surprised to know the answer.

Organic pasta is produced completely free from pesticides, fertilisers, and other unnatural hormones that can be harmful to you and your family. Organic pasta also provides more nutrients, fibre and has a natural wheat flavour. Something that most people haven’t given much thought to before is how many toxins and chemicals are used when growing wheat and grains used to make breads and pasta.

At Peaches we believe that the fresher the better, and we’ve found a delicious healthy recipe you can make using La Domenica Organic Penne Regati. All the ingredients in the recipe can be purchased at Peaches Fresh!

VEGETABLE GARDEN PASTA

200 grams of La Domenica Penne Regati

1 punnet of fresh cherry tomatoes

1 clove of garlic

2 1/2 tbs of Golden Range Olive Oil

1 ear of corn

1 zucchini (chopped)

1/2 capsicum (chopped)

Basil (sliced)

Salt and Pepper (to taste)

Start by heating up the olive oil in a pan. Cook the garlic clove and tomatoes until they soften. Put all the other vegetables in a separate pan and sauté for about 10 minutes. Once everything is ready, combine in one pan. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper, stir through some fresh basil and serve. Couldn’t be more simple and healthy!

This week we want to see you cook your own delicious and nutritious meal using La Domenica Organic Pasta!

Everyone that buys a packet of La Domenica pasta at Peaches this week will go into the draw to win a $500 organic gourmet hamper! Even better, our Facebook followers have the chance to win $100 Peaches voucher each week by answering our competition question.

So stay tuned to our Facebook page to enter the competition and let us know about meals you have created using our organic pasta range!
